ANDRITZ and UPM have signed a previous agreement under which ANDRITZ must supply energy-efficient and environmentally friendly pulp production technologies and pulp production equipment, as well as major process facilities. The final order will have an average amount of tens of millions for ANDRITZ and is expected to be reserved in the first quarter of 2020. Further details of the agreement will be announced after the final contract is signed, which is expected to be done in the coming weeks. The original contract was signed in 2012 in connection with the acquisition of the Pietarsaari mill by BillerudKorsns and was originally due to expire in June 2022. The new supply contract that has just been concluded is based on market conditions and will come into force in June 2020. As part of the renegotiation, the parties agreed that BillerudKorsns UPM will pay compensation of 15 million euros in three tranches next year. A provision of this amount is recorded in the second quarter 2020 results and then recorded as a cost detrimental to comparability. “I am pleased that we have reached an agreement that ensures the long-term production of paper to Pietarsaari for the benefit of both parties,” said Helene Bistrom, Executive Vice President of the division.
